Obesity is the abnormal fat accumulation that may impair health. It is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health leading to reduced life expectancy or increased health problems. It is one of the most serious public health problems of 21st century and a leading preventable cause of death. risk of fractures, hypertension, psychological effects and social withdrawal. It increases the risk of many physical and mental conditions. It increases the likelihood of various diseases particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain type of cancer and osteoarthritis, Renal Failure, Stroke, Athero-Sclerosis.

According to Ayurveda obesity is called as Sthoulya which is mainly an endocrinology issue,
The disturbance of the biological factors, the formation and accumulation of undigested nutrients, obstruction of the body channels and disturbed assimilation in the tissue which increases the medas and in turn causes obesity.

By considering all factors including hormonal imbalances, and co morbid disorders like hypercholesterolemia and diabetes and even hypertension the treatment modalities are different.
